                              ---------------

Originally released as shareware in January 1994.
Re-released as freeware in May 1997.

This font must not be used in the U.K.,
in publications destined for the U.K.
or in any jurisdiction where it is in breach of copyright
or design patent laws and regulations.

                   --------------------------------------

This font is generally based on the typeface designed for London
Transport by the calligrapher Edward Johnston in 1916 and used
until 1980, when it was replaced by New Johnston.

During a visit to England in 1993, I phoned London Transport to
try to get a PostScript copy of New Johnston, but I was told that
it was made available only to London Transport's typesetting
suppliers, which is why I decided to create this version--without
     London Transport's knowledge or approval.

London Tube was drawn using Altsys Fontographer 3.5.1 on a
PC-compatible computer and has the complete Adobe standard
character set. Only the letters A-Z and a-z are based on a sample
     of Johnston's type.

Since the first release of London Tube, Stephen Moye has released
Paddington, a type family for the Macintosh that is also based on
Johnston's type. Paddington regular is probably closer to it than
London Tube, and has a slightly larger x-height. It is also
probably a better font, but as far as I know Moye has no
intention of releasing a PC version.

You may use London Tube without payment, but you may not sell
this font or distribute any modified version without my written
consent. London Tube may not be distributed without this text file.
